Responsibilities
- Lead the technical vision, architecture, and delivery of Stripe’s canonical Supportability Decision Layer.
- Architect decision aggregation and orchestration pipelines that produce unified, low-latency risk determinations.
- Design high-throughput, low-latency distributed backend services and resilient decision engines.
- Define domain models, contracts, and interfaces for transaction laundering detection, web-presence screening, and Local Payment Method support.
- Serve as technical lead and mentor for the Dublin engineering team, setting architectural patterns and conducting design reviews.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Risk Operations, and Data Science teams to translate risk policy into scalable technical roadmaps.
- Drive technical alignment and integrations across global partner teams through design artifacts and asynchronous collaboration.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional backend software engineering experience building and maintaining complex distributed systems in production.
- Experience leading multi-quarter technical initiatives from ambiguous requirements through production delivery as a technical lead or staff engineer.
- Deep experience designing durable, scalable APIs, data models, and backend architectures for mission-critical workloads.
- Experience mentoring engineers, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and driving technical consensus across distributed teams.
- Fluency in a modern backend language such as Ruby, Java, Go, Python, or C++.
- Preferred experience in trust, safety, risk, fraud, deceptive practices, or platform-abuse domains.
- Preferred experience with workflow orchestration, policy evaluation, decision platforms, global payments, Local Payment Methods, or card network standards.
- Preferred background in agentic workflows, orchestrators, or integrating machine learning models into real-time decision pipelines.
- Preferred experience founding or anchoring a new team or technical domain in a regional engineering hub.
