Responsibilities
- Evolve the Rust-based Supabase Edge Runtime that hosts Deno isolates and manages runtime separation and per-request CPU and memory limits.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and OpenTelemetry tracing and use the resulting visibility to improve latency and service reliability.
- Collaborate with Deno and other open-source teams, contribute upstream, and relay user requirements.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to maintain production health of Edge Functions.
- Manage and improve scheduled functions, background tasks, WebSockets streaming, ephemeral file storage, and custom routing.
- Integrate Edge Functions with Supabase Auth, Postgres, Storage, and Realtime.
- Expand Edge Functions for use cases including AI inference, MCP servers, simple websites, and URL shorteners.
- Improve local development and debugging through the Supabase CLI, DevTools integration, logging, and production parity.
Requirements
- At least five years of backend or systems engineering experience.
- Strong fluency in Rust and TypeScript.
- Experience with V8 Isolates, Deno, and JavaScript runtimes.
- Experience operating infrastructure at scale, such as Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, or Redis.
- A strong vision for distributing compute and data to the edge.
- Experience building developer-facing CLIs or frontend tooling on infrastructure products is a bonus.
