Responsibilities
- Build and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
- Improve components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintain cluster coordination as nodes join, leave, and move data while preserving safety and liveness.
- Increase the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes Elasticsearch can support.
- Investigate performance and concurrency issues and propose solutions.
- Support support engineers with complex technical problems.
- Own operational investigations through resolution of performance and stability issues.
- Own projects end to end, including technical design and collaboration on implementation.
Requirements
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong core Java skills, including data structures, concurrency constructs, the standard library, and newer language features.
- Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
- Experience understanding and working on complex, highly distributed systems rather than relying on off-the-shelf services.
- Ability to build and debug broad-impact features running across multiple machines.
- Proven ability to use AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning final outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and transition between projects, codebases, or teams.
- Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions and results in a distributed team.
- Bonus: experience with data stores, search, analytics, Lucene, the JDK, or asynchronous event-driven network frameworks such as Netty.
