Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded applications, firmware, drivers, and software for autonomous aircraft and ground systems.
  • Design and validate RF radio test setups, manufacturing software test suites, Hardware-in-the-Loop integrations, and simulation workflows.
  • Develop real-time coprocessor firmware and telemetry systems using ADCs, I2C devices, and GPIO interrupts.
  • Prototype and integrate perception systems, compute modules, and sensor technologies for flight testing.
  • Improve aircraft launch and landing behavior through bench-top and real flight-test methods, then deploy validated updates to global operations.
  • Define system requirements, develop solutions, test with data, and investigate failures to improve safety and reliability.

Requirements

  • Must have completed at least the second year of undergraduate studies; Master’s and PhD students are also eligible.
  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience designing, building, or deploying electromechanical systems or robots in or outside the classroom.
  • Comfortable programming in at least one of C, C++, Python, or Rust.
  • Experience developing software for a real-time operating system or embedded Linux.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering fundamentals, including reading schematics, debugging with an oscilloscope, and communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, and UART.
  • Able to write efficient, readable, well-tested code with friendly APIs and minimal technical debt.

  • Full-time, in-person internship at Zipline’s South San Francisco office.
  • Summer 2027 internship period from May/June through August/September.
  • Hourly pay of $54 per hour.
