Responsibilities
- Design and implement features and performance improvements across discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services
- Develop, maintain, test, and optimize high-quality backend code and critical paths
- Write, review, and communicate technical designs and trade-offs
- Review pull requests and provide constructive technical feedback
- Improve test coverage, refactor code, and reduce technical debt
- Troubleshoot production issues and follow up with post-mortems and mitigation plans
- Plan and execute feature work and contribute to sprint and feature planning
- Collaborate with product managers, QE, customer support, and engineering peers
- Participate periodically in the on-call rotation and incorporate security considerations into development
- Use AI tools to accelerate development and author or review technical and SDLC artifacts
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software industry experience designing and building backend services and reusable components
- Experience with distributed systems, cloud computing, code design, testing, troubleshooting, and code reviews
- Ability to independently lead feature-level software and design work and explain technical trade-offs
- Proficiency in a modern backend or systems language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#
- Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure and containerization with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with continuous integration tooling such as BuildKite
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog or Grafana is a plus
- Fluency with AI code assistants, coding agents, and conversational AI for code and SDLC artifacts
- Bonus experience with ETL or ELT, cloud-based data platforms, metadata, catalog, lineage, discovery or search systems, GraphQL APIs, high-throughput multi-tenant data services, analytics engineering, or the dbt ecosystem
