Responsibilities
- Design and maintain fault-tolerant, observable data ingestion pipelines with logging, alerting, and failure handling.
- Build reusable, version-controlled platform components, APIs, extraction services, and inbound or outbound data interfaces.
- Own production data interfaces and provide technical escalation support for complex source integrations.
- Implement CDC, delta, event-based, HTTP, Kerberos-authenticated, and file-based data transfer patterns.
- Integrate data sources including SAP, Salesforce, SharePoint, APIs, legacy manufacturing platforms, and data lake systems.
- Develop and maintain backend services for a web-accessible data catalog, including metadata management, dataset discovery, previews, exploration, and lineage.
- Use Unity Catalog as a backend metadata system and implement structured access-request workflows with approvals, audit trails, and enablement triggers.
- Establish data quality validation, monitoring, severity classification, flagging, filtering, and quarantine capabilities.
- Maintain documentation, compliance, auditability, and traceability for interfaces and data ingress points.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, architecture, IT, business users, source-system owners, and global stakeholders.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- 5–8 years of software development experience with inbound and outbound data exchange interfaces, APIs, CDC, and endpoint management.
- Hands-on experience with Scala or Java, Python, advanced SQL, Git, and CI/CD methodologies.
- Experience building robust ingestion pipelines and ETL jobs in a software engineering context.
- Experience with Azure or another hyperscaler for resource management.
- Familiarity with data lakes, data warehousing, Databricks, and Azure is preferred.
- Backend or software engineering experience with Java, Scala, or distributed systems is encouraged.
- Experience primarily limited to notebook-based processing, dashboarding or analytics, BI tools, or SQL-only work is not a fit.
