Responsibilities
- Define and influence the direction of a small team using subject-matter expertise in target tracking and state estimation.
- Architect, maintain, and evolve complex software systems while improving performance, maintainability, scalability, and technical debt.
- Prototype and deploy algorithms for tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, and state estimation.
- Develop high-performance Rust software for real-time tactical systems, simulations, and decision-support tools.
- Design robust filters, estimators, and probabilistic reasoning systems for noisy, ambiguous, or incomplete sensor data.
- Analyze system performance with high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and statistical techniques.
- Customize algorithms and software for mission-critical customer use cases involving real-time tracking and sensor fusion.
- Integrate tracking and estimation technologies across requirements definition, testing, optimization, and production deployment.
- Communicate technical progress and actionable insights to colleagues, stakeholders, and end users.
Requirements
- At least five years of professional software engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, or another technical field.
- At least two years of experience working on a single codebase or product while maintaining and expanding it as requirements evolved.
- Demonstrated experience managing and evolving production software architecture, refactoring legacy systems, and managing technical debt.
- Strong understanding of software design patterns, architectural principles, and best practices for maintainable and scalable systems.
- Proficiency in algorithm design, software development, and statistical modeling; experience with Rust, C, C++, Python, and Matlab is a plus.
- Understanding of linear algebra, optimization, probability, stochastic processes, signal processing, estimation theory, adaptive filtering, controls, and complex signal environments.
- Familiarity with big data pipelines, NoSQL databases, and efficient handling of large-scale sensor data from sources such as radar, lidar, and EO/IR.
- Ability to work across the lifecycle from prototyping through production optimization.
- Experience refactoring and modernizing Rust codebases, making architectural decisions, and providing technical leadership on long-lived projects.
- Preferred experience includes open-source Rust contributions, concurrent and parallel programming in Rust, Bayesian filtering, sensor fusion, recursive estimation, and machine learning for tracking and recognition.
- Preferred knowledge includes Kalman filters, particle filters, and multi-target tracking algorithms such as JPDA, MHT, and PHD filters.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
