Base Salary
$179k - $292k/yr
Responsibilities
- Make technical decisions affecting multiple teams and organizational boundaries.
- Set technical direction for Venmo’s authentication, authorization, identity verification, and fraud risk systems.
- Own complex identity-platform problems from initial design through production.
- Partner with PayPal platform and security teams on identity standards, reusable infrastructure, and cross-organizational initiatives.
- Lead architectural reviews and define engineering standards for scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
- Mentor senior engineers through design documents, code reviews, technical discussions, and examples.
- Translate KYC, AML, GDPR, PCI, and other regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
- Proactively identify and address authentication, compliance, scaling, and reliability risks.
- Own service performance and availability, participate in on-call rotations, and support incident response.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Preferred 12+ years of software engineering experience, including significant work on identity, authentication, or security-critical systems at scale.
- Deep expertise with identity and access management protocols including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, and FIDO2/WebAuthn.
- Experience defining and delivering large-scale distributed systems and leading technical strategy across teams or organizations.
- Hands-on backend experience with Python, Java, Go, or similar technologies.
- Experience with public cloud, preferably AWS, and infrastructure as code using Terraform.
- Experience designing systems that meet regulatory requirements such as KYC, AML, GDPR, or similar.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including design documentation and executive-level technical discussions.
- Expertise in distributed services and backend systems.
