Responsibilities
- Design and build low-latency, high-throughput microservices for Apple customer experiences.
- Develop and maintain testable, maintainable, and extensible backend code using Java and the Spring ecosystem.
- Design, implement, and ship highly available, fault-tolerant, secure cloud-based distributed systems.
- Apply advanced JVM performance optimization techniques involving concurrency, memory management, garbage collection, JIT, and related internals.
- Design and implement APIs with versioning, gateway, rate-limiting, contract-first, and backward-compatibility strategies.
- Use caching and in-memory data technologies for high-throughput applications and session management.
- Lead software projects as a technical lead and mentor software engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience.
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
- At least 2 years of experience with Java, including concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, software design patterns, and backend software design.
- Production experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data, Spring Cloud, dependency injection, auto-configuration, WebFlux, reactive programming, and Spring-based microservices.
- Strong understanding of JVM internals, including garbage collection, memory allocation, JIT, and JNI.
- Experience designing and shipping high-scale, high-performance, highly available, fault-tolerant, and secure cloud-based distributed systems.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and infrastructure, including HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, CDN, load balancing, edge computing, DNS, and Zero Trust architecture.
- Preferred experience leading software projects, mentoring engineers, using Claude, Copilot, or Codex, and working with Go, Python, Ruby, RESTful APIs, gRPC, GraphQL, OpenAPI, Swagger, Protobuf, Redis, Memcached, Hazelcast, or Ehcache.
