Responsibilities
- Lead administration, backup policy configuration, disaster recovery operations, migration planning, and platform management across Cohesity, Commvault, and NetBackup environments.
- Own backup retention, data protection, file recovery, telemetry, reporting, certification, and restore operations.
- Improve the reliability, stability, scalability, performance, and service levels of data protection applications and platforms.
- Define service level indicators, service level objectives, error budgets, and operational readiness practices with stakeholders.
- Act as the primary incident contact for data protection applications and lead major-incident troubleshooting, escalation, and post-incident analysis.
- Lead resiliency design reviews, reliability initiatives, AI-assisted operational workflows, and automation across the development and operations toolchain.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, knowledge sharing, and leadership to engineers across the team.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in site reliability engineering concepts and at least 5 years of applied experience.
- Hands-on enterprise-scale experience administering Cohesity, Commvault, and NetBackup, including deduplication, storage optimization, policy management, tape libraries, and platform deployments.
- Knowledge of backup scheduling, retention, immutability, classification-based handling, monitoring, retries, alerting, integrity checks, and restoration.
- Proficiency in reliability, scalability, performance, security, enterprise architecture, toil reduction, observability, and SRE practices.
- Experience with monitoring and telemetry tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, or Splunk.
- Fluency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java/Spring Boot, or .NET, with automation and scripting experience.
- Experience with Jenkins, GitLab, or Terraform and with Kubernetes, Docker, or ECS.
- Experience troubleshooting networking technologies and working with storage technologies and SAN/NAS environments.
- Experience with encrypted backup, backup replication, backup certification, and compliance requirements.
- Experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities in SRE workflows, evaluating AI recommendations, and defining operational guardrails.
- Preferred experience includes complex data structure and algorithm problem solving, 24x7 production support, on-call response, Data Protection 2.0, compliance frameworks, and globally distributed infrastructure environments.
