Fielded Site Reliability Engineer

Responsibilities
- Own the reliability, health, and uptime of deployed imaging systems.
- Triage, diagnose, and resolve field issues spanning networking, services, calibration, upgrades, and sensor hardware.
- Run first- and second-line escalation response for customer-support and mission-success issues.
- Create and maintain runbooks, diagnostics, and self-service tooling to reduce recurring support incidents.
- Reproduce and document software defects before handing them off to Mission Software Engineers.
- Improve observability, upgrade safety, and failure handling based on field reliability insights.
- Participate in a structured on-call rotation with scheduled after-hours and weekend coverage.
- Travel approximately 15% of the time for field support and deployment windows.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, field or systems engineering, or production support for deployed hardware/software systems.
- Strong Linux fundamentals and experience troubleshooting networking issues involving IP, routing, VPNs, and constrained field connectivity.
- Ability to diagnose issues across networking, services, and hardware boundaries without complete system visibility.
- Experience owning systems after deployment rather than only standing up development environments.
- Comfort with structured on-call responsibilities, including after-hours and weekend coverage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for remote troubleshooting with non-technical operators and incident documentation.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance.
- Preferred experience supporting fielded hardware or sensor systems such as EO/IR or optical systems, including sensor calibration.
- Preferred scripting experience with Python, Bash, or similar tools.
- Preferred familiarity with Nix or NixOS, systemd service management, Linux observability practices, and incident tooling such as PagerDuty.
