Responsibilities
- Build and maintain custom WordPress themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks, block collections, libraries, Composer packages, and developer tooling.
- Develop and maintain high-traffic, multilingual WordPress sites and integrations with internal and third-party systems.
- Optimize legacy code, database queries, object caching, and site performance to meet Core Web Vitals targets.
- Build and consume APIs, including custom WordPress REST endpoints.
- Participate in code reviews, CI/CD improvements, engineering standards, and timely product delivery.
- Collaborate with product, marketing, SEO, and content teams on site features and improvements.
- Apply WordPress security practices including escaping, sanitization, nonces, and capabilities.
Requirements
- 5+ years of proven experience as a WordPress Developer using object-oriented PHP.
- Deep knowledge of WordPress core APIs, including hooks, custom post types and taxonomies, meta and custom fields, ACF Pro, native fields, and WP_Query.
- Production experience building Gutenberg blocks with React, JSX, block.json, and @wordpress/scripts.
- Strong modern JavaScript, including ES6+, plus webpack or Vite and modern CSS tooling such as Sass or PostCSS; Tailwind is a plus.
- Experience designing and building APIs, including custom WordPress REST endpoints.
- Strong understanding of WordPress security and performance, including object caching and query optimization.
- Comfort with Git-based workflows, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to work responsibly with AI-assisted tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, and Cursor and verify generated code.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Preferred experience includes block themes, FSE, theme.json, the Interactivity API, Bedrock, PHPUnit, Playwright, PHPStan, PHPCS/WPCS, Timber/Twig, Blade, Multisite, multilingual WordPress, WPML, Polylang, WPGraphQL, Next.js, accessibility, technical SEO, Cypress, Lighthouse, Core Web Vitals, k6, JMeter, Redis, Varnish, CDNs, Docker, WP-CLI, and testing event, ticketing, or payment flows.
