Responsibilities
- Manage and operate distributed disk storage, block, object, and filesystem services based on Ceph and other open-source technologies.
- Design and evolve storage-service architectures and software-defined storage capabilities for CERN.
- Integrate, troubleshoot, and maintain distributed storage systems at scale across availability zones and data centers.
- Use C++ to diagnose Ceph code issues and contribute improvements to the upstream open-source Ceph project when needed.
- Develop, optimize, document, and automate storage services, including improvements to deployment and observability.
- Participate in change management, incident response, and user support.
- Liaise with stakeholders, users, cross-functional teams, and international partners.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in computer science or a related field.
- Strong interest in service management, including operations, troubleshooting, user support, configuration, and automation.
- Deep understanding of Linux operating-system performance, tuning, and administration.
- Deep understanding of distributed-storage and filesystem architecture, including technologies such as NFS and CephFS.
- Experience debugging and diagnosing complex distributed environments across hardware, network, and software layers.
- Demonstrated C++ software-development experience with distributed storage systems, preferably including Ceph source code.
- Good knowledge of Python and shell scripting languages.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working with cross-functional teams, users, and partners.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
