Base Salary
$151k - $309k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement Kotlin backend services that improve customer device management workflows.
- Lead the design and development of Toast’s next-generation software services and applications.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Hardware, QA, and Software teams on product roadmaps, requirements, and long-term technical vision.
- Create technical requirements and detailed software system designs.
- Lead effort estimation sessions and support project planning.
- Diagnose performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations.
- Make technical decisions focused on software quality, security, and maintainability.
- Establish software quality standards through modern testing frameworks and development practices.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience designing and implementing robust backend services.
- Proficiency in a modern object-oriented language such as Java or Kotlin.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to drive alignment across engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
- Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies.
- Knowledge of backend application lifecycle management, including database, service, and API design.
- Experience developing single-page frontend applications with React.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with AI-augmented development workflows and tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
- Preferred experience with DynamoDB or PostgreSQL.
- Preferred proficiency in Kotlin and Kotlin-specific backend frameworks and libraries, or Java experience with willingness to learn Kotlin.
- Preferred experience with monitoring tools for debugging and resolving customer issues.
- Preferred understanding of mobile device management concepts and enterprise device management platforms.
