Responsibilities
- Understand end-user requirements and communicate technical topics independently.
- Implement software enhancements, correct defects, and create new products under limited direction.
- Own product quality across design, development, release, and ongoing supportability.
- Architect, extend, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks for supported platforms and performance solutions.
- Apply software engineering design principles, code reviews, and long-term maintainability practices to test automation.
- Partner with developers and product owners to improve testability, usability, and system resilience.
- Validate functional correctness, performance, scalability, failure modes, user experience, and operational behavior.
- Use deep system knowledge to influence product design decisions and evolve test strategy as system complexity grows.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement of product quality.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 8+ years of software development experience.
- Proficiency with Jira, GitHub, and VS Code.
- Hands-on experience with Linux environments.
- Experience designing, building, or extending automated test systems or frameworks rather than only writing individual test cases.
- Proficiency in one or more scripting or programming languages used for automation.
- Preferred experience with mainframe environments, including z/OS, IMS, or CICS.
- Preferred experience with distributed systems, enterprise-scale applications, production issue diagnosis, performance or capacity software, and mainframe systems programming or application development.
- Preferred experience working with the Federal Government in Australia.
- Understanding of SDLC and CI/CD processes and experience writing code with comprehensive unit test coverage.
- Strong technical judgment, architectural thinking, attention to detail, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a technically demanding engineering environment.
