Base Salary
$153k - $262k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate major cloud engineering and DevOps initiatives from design through delivery.
- Define technical tasks, identify stakeholders, manage risks and changes, coordinate engineering work, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
- Design, implement, and support infrastructure for global-scale services and improve infrastructure configuration through automation and infrastructure as code.
- Troubleshoot incidents, determine root causes, document problems, and implement preventive measures.
- Improve the scalability, reliability, stability, security, and operational quality of infrastructure and applications.
- Develop and improve CI/CD infrastructure, pipelines, development environments, secret-management systems, microservices scaffolding, and testing frameworks.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to application teams and contribute to the strategic direction of one or more technical domains.
- Mentor and coach senior and junior engineers and product owners on design principles, development practices, and cloud competencies.
- Evaluate and promote emerging technologies and architectures aligned with business objectives.
- Collaborate with management to establish engineering standards and represent PayPal with partners, customers, and industry organizations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of experience in software development or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience operating distributed applications 24x7x365 as part of a Cloud Engineering, DevOps, and/or SRE team.
- 2+ years of technical leadership experience.
- Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in computer science or a related field of study.
- Extensive hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting infrastructure for global-scale services, preferably with AWS.
- Deep hands-on experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions from AWS or a similar cloud provider.
- Hands-on programming and scripting experience with Python, Java, Bash, and Go.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.

- Pay ranges vary by location; the primary San Jose range is $176,500.00-$262,350.00 annually.
