
Staff enterprise Application Engineer - Web Apps
GE VernovaResponsibilities
- Respond quickly to and resolve critical service outages impacting consumers.
- Establish performance baselines, capacity thresholds, event correlations, and monitoring and alerting criteria.
- Develop automated solutions to prevent service interruptions and remediate configuration drift.
- Assess production changes and provide impact assessments and mitigation plans.
- Investigate severe and systemic outages, identify root causes, and apply corrective actions across the enterprise.
- Develop availability measures, capacity models, failure-point analyses, and automated load-placement strategies.
- Create response plans, evaluate them during planned tests, and perform comprehensive operational health checks.
- Provide technical coaching and direction to junior teammates.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a STEM major.
- For US-based roles, a minimum of eight years of experience is required.
- Experience scripting or developing cloud software and services using technologies such as Ruby, Python, Go, Java, Node.js, or .NET.
- Strong understanding of cloud computing, including security, usage scenarios, and infrastructure fundamentals.
- Excellent knowledge of Unix/Linux, Windows, network protocols, TCP/IP networking, and inter-networking technologies.
- Experience with Git, public-cloud infrastructure such as AWS or Azure, and automated configuration management systems.
- Experience configuring, customizing, and extending monitoring tools such as Datadog, Sensu, Grafana, or Splunk.
- Knowledge of SNMP and MIB, plus routing, switching, proxies, firewalls, and load balancing.
- Ability to work in a small, rapidly changing team, deliver results, learn quickly, and coach or empower colleagues.
