Responsibilities
- Design and implement a unified open-format Data Lakehouse using Snowflake-managed Apache Iceberg on AWS S3.
- Architect high-throughput batch, micro-batch, and real-time data ingestion from transactional databases, APIs, and event logs.
- Design a multi-tenant data mesh with delegated administration, RBAC, row-access policies, and secure cross-domain sharing.
- Deploy a universal semantic layer and define business logic as code for consistent metrics across BI tools, data applications, and AI agents.
- Set technical standards for Bronze, Silver, and Gold data flows using dbt, PySpark, and Snowpark.
- Drive infrastructure-as-code practices for platform provisioning, networking, and security configuration using Terraform.
- Serve as the technical escalation point for 60+ engineers, mentor Staff and Senior ICs, and lead architecture reviews.
- Define integration contracts across transactional systems, the data platform, and downstream product applications.
- Participate in an on-call rotation when applicable, including possible nights and weekends.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software or data engineering experience, including at least 5+ years at a Staff, Principal, or Lead Architect level.
- Deep hands-on architectural experience with AWS, including S3, IAM, and EKS, plus Snowflake and Apache Iceberg.
- Expertise with data movement pipelines such as Fivetran and Airbyte and event-streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, and Snowpipe.
- Experience migrating legacy ETL platforms to modern, compute-optimized ELT architectures.
- Expert understanding of Star Schema design and dimensional modeling for analytical reads and semantic layers.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, and distributed compute engines such as Spark, Ray, or native Snowflake compute.
- Extensive experience designing multi-tenant data architectures, RBAC, and cross-domain security policies in regulated environments.
- Mastery of CI/CD pipelines such as Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions and infrastructure provisioning with Terraform.
- Strong perspective on modern data-stack tradeoffs between vendor coupling and open-source flexibility is preferred.
- Experience integrating data platforms with machine learning pipelines and AI workflows is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to influence engineering culture and align multiple engineering squads is preferred.
