Base Salary
$175k - $300k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define the architecture for photorealistic 3D across ray tracing, rasterization, denoising, and Metal, Vulkan, Direct3D, and WebGPU.
- Build physically based light transport including global illumination, reflections, refraction, soft shadows, and volumetrics.
- Implement physically based materials, lights, cameras, exposure, depth of field, and motion blur.
- Own image quality through sampling, antialiasing, accumulation, denoising, firefly suppression, and deterministic video-export frames.
- Scale rendering using acceleration structures, instancing, culling, and memory management for complex scenes.
- Integrate 3D with Tesseract’s video, motion graphics, compositing, ACES color management, and render passes.
- Improve rendering predictability and robustness through performance budgets, profiling, and headless batch rendering on local and cloud GPUs.
- Design clear 3D APIs and scene representations for people and AI agents, including validation and render-cost feedback.
- Collaborate with engine, product, and AI teams and help hire and grow the 3D rendering team.
Requirements
- Deep production experience building physically based renderers, path tracers, offline renderers, or ray-traced/hybrid game engines.
- Strong command of the rendering equation, Monte Carlo integration, importance sampling, material models, and denoising.
- Hands-on GPU ray-tracing experience with acceleration structures, BVHs, hardware ray-tracing APIs, and compute-based fallbacks.
- Understanding of modern rasterization and hybrid rasterization/ray-tracing pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with Metal, Vulkan, Direct3D, or WebGPU, including compute shaders, GPU profiling, and GPU debugging.
- Proficiency in Rust or C++ and strong understanding of memory, concurrency, and performance.
- Strong mathematics foundations in linear algebra, geometry, probability, and sampling.
- Experience diagnosing and improving visual realism and owning complex technical projects and architectural decisions.
- Preferred experience with production renderers or engines such as Cycles, Arnold, RenderMan, V-Ray, Karma, Unreal Engine, or Unity HDRP.
- Preferred experience with ML denoisers, neural rendering, ACES, OpenColorIO, HDR output, film-look pipelines, wgpu, Apple silicon, mobile GPUs, video compositing, or 2D/3D creative tools integration.
Benefits
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.
- 401(k) with employer match.
- Commuter benefits, catered lunch multiple days per week, dinner stipend when working late, and a Grubhub subscription.
- Health and wellness perks.
- Multiple team offsites per year and monthly team events.
- Generous paid time off policy.
- Most roles require working in person at the NYC headquarters in Union Square.
- Benefits apply to full-time employees only.
