Lead Software Engineer – Real-Time Events

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, launch, and operate production features for the real-time event pipeline.
- Own architecture for pipeline components and evaluate technologies for cost, latency, and operational improvements.
- Lead architectural discussions, pipeline projects, and stable contracts with downstream consumers.
- Mentor teammates through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing.
- Partner with Product, Data, and ZMP consumer teams to translate latency, throughput, and correctness SLAs into working systems.
- Instrument services, improve alerting, address on-call gaps, and drive post-incident fixes including code, runbooks, and dashboards.
- Own high-throughput pipeline performance, cost, observability, data quality, and SLOs.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8–10 years of software engineering experience, including Lead or Staff-level work on event, streaming, or data-infrastructure systems.
- Production experience with event streaming such as Kafka, Python services and APIs such as FastAPI, and pipeline processing such as Spark or EMR.
- Proficiency designing, deploying, and operating systems on AWS, including S3, SQS/SNS, Lambda, and RDS.
- Experience across the complete software development lifecycle from design through production monitoring and on-call.
- Fluency in Python or substantial experience with Scala and Java.
- Experience with event-pipeline data stores such as Postgres/MySQL, Redis, and DynamoDB.
- Experience with schedulers or orchestrators such as Apache Airflow.
- Track record owning high-throughput production pipelines, incidents, performance, cost, observability, data quality, and SLOs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain pipeline designs and trade-offs to partners.
