Responsibilities
- Build, modify, test, and operate production backend services and APIs in Python.
- Own source-system integrations, including interface contracts, authentication, reliable ingestion, validation, and failure handling.
- Lead technical standards and act as the engineering quality authority as an individual contributor without line-management responsibility.
- Review human-written and AI-generated code and designs, identifying and correcting plausible but incorrect behavior.
- Maintain simple architecture and low technical debt through automated testing, refactoring, documentation, and removal of obsolete paths.
- Own CI/CD and automated quality controls, including code review automation, testing, dependency and container controls, and secure delivery practices.
- Improve platform reliability, performance, observability, incident response, and recovery as the system scales.
- Collaborate with the Financial Data & Analytics Engineer, finance specialists, cloud service providers, data specialists, and internal cloud buyers to deliver roadmap capabilities.
- Communicate technical decisions, documentation, reviews, and tradeoffs in English.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of relevant professional software-engineering experience.
- Advanced hands-on Python backend engineering experience in production systems.
- Experience designing and operating system integrations, APIs, data contracts, or reliable ingestion boundaries.
- Strong judgment demonstrated through production code review, testing, incident analysis, and maintainability decisions.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and production reliability.
- Applied security experience involving secure defaults, dependency and container controls, IAM discipline, vulnerability remediation, or automated guardrails.
- Practical experience using AI coding tools, including detecting and correcting flawed AI-generated code or designs.
- Evidence of adapting engineering approaches when tools, risks, evidence, or requirements changed.
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs and collaborate with engineering, finance, and business stakeholders.
- Business-level English, demonstrated by a TOEIC score of 800 or above or equivalent ability.
- Desired qualifications include GCP experience, on-premise infrastructure experience, Flask, DuckDB, Parquet, Terraform, Jenkins, Docker, financial or analytics product experience, strong SQL and data-pipeline experience, relevant cloud/security/reliability certification, and business-level Japanese.
