Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs powering Kensho’s AI applications.
- Build retrieval and orchestration services that integrate with ML systems and support GenAI application workflows.
- Optimize latency, throughput, scalability, and reliability across distributed backend systems.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, service boundaries, code quality, maintainability, and fault tolerance.
- Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, instrumentation, and other observability practices.
- Apply API security, authentication, authorization, and data privacy best practices.
- Identify technical debt and propose practical system improvements.
- Collaborate with Product, Machine Learning, Infrastructure, Design, and other Application engineers.
- Build backend components that support customer-facing user experiences.
- Prototype and validate ideas through instrumentation and data-driven experimentation.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of direct experience developing customer-facing APIs within a team.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs using a variety of tools.
- Experience across multiple stages of the software development lifecycle.
- Knowledge of loosely coupled systems, algorithms, data structures, software architecture, concurrency, and distributed systems.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience building and scaling high-volume, low-latency backend services.
- Hands-on experience with messaging, task queues, or workflow systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Celery.
- Experience deploying and operating backend systems on a major cloud platform, preferably AWS.
- Experience with observability tools and practices including metrics, tracing, and structured logging.
- Ability to turn abstract business requirements into concrete technical plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
