Responsibilities
- Prototype, design, develop, and support Qualys’ scalable SaaS cloud security data platform and middleware.
- Own and operate data technologies processing millions of transactions per second and hundreds of terabytes of data.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct proofs of concept, and roll successful solutions into production.
- Serve as the developer advocate and technical owner for the data platform stack, contributing improvements to open source where appropriate.
- Instrument, migrate, burst, and scale data systems in cloud environments with minimal downtime.
- Build resilient client SDKs for applications communicating with platform data sources.
- Design and deliver a high-quality big-data platform focused on performance, scalability, high availability, security, and cost effectiveness.
- Collaborate with engineering, product management, operations, and application teams on platform and infrastructure capabilities.
- Provide thought leadership, architecture reviews, mentoring, and best practices across multiple teams.
- Develop production-ready software using sound architecture, design, testing, and security practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 6 years of hands-on experience developing SaaS software products for service-oriented deployments in public or private clouds.
- Experience with relational database systems and NoSQL databases.
- Strong data-driven problem-solving, analytical, debugging, data structures, and algorithms skills.
- Ability to write readable, well-tested, production-ready code with well-designed APIs.
- Experience with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and data platform technologies such as Cassandra, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Ceph, Flink, or Spark.
- Strong Java programming skills, including object-oriented design, prototyping, development, testing, and profiling.
- Knowledge of JVM concepts including garbage collection, heap, stack, profiling, and class loading.
- Preferred experience includes building data platforms from the ground up, applying encryption and security standards, and using Docker, Kubernetes, monitoring tools, HashiCorp technologies, configuration management tools, build tools, and continuous integration and deployment pipelines.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, collaborate across teams, mentor peers, and work within agile software development methodologies.
