Responsibilities
- Build and maintain features across the full Android application stack, including input, networking, video rendering, UI, application packaging, and distribution.
- Define performance benchmarks and profile and tune software across networking, CPU, GPU, and input using Android tooling and AOSP internals.
- Design and develop features that improve video latency, quality, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability across diverse Android hardware and operating systems.
- Own features from scoping through delivery by drafting requirements and designs, tracking milestones, managing dependencies and risks, and surfacing blockers.
- Participate in code and design reviews and collaborate with internal engineering and QA teams and external Android product partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related area, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of systems software development experience with thorough knowledge of Android concepts including Activity, Fragment, Service, and JNI.
- Experience with Android graphics rendering and video playback pipelines using MediaCodec, EGL, and Vulkan.
- Hands-on proficiency with Android profiling and debugging tools such as Dumpsys, Traceview, and GPU Inspector across networking, input, CPU, and GPU.
- Understanding of Android build systems and testing infrastructure, including Gradle, Jenkins, AAB, instrumentation, UI automation, and unit testing.
- Highly proficient in Java and C/C++ and comfortable working in a large, long-lived codebase.
- Proficiency with Kibana for statistical data analysis and familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Perforce, and Git.
- Ability to independently drive projects to completion with strong written and verbal communication and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Preferred qualifications include familiarity with low-latency video streaming pipelines, video codecs, display, color spaces, scaling, RTSP, WebRTC, multimedia implementations in AOSP, and AI developer tools and models.
