Responsibilities
- Build, operate, and maintain Fastly’s growing global Edge Cloud Platform network.
- Respond to significant traffic incidents and lead network incident resolution, including BGP routing failures and edge cases.
- Write performant, maintainable, clear, and concise code and participate in code reviews.
- Develop and improve tools and automation systems for operating and building the network.
- Create monitoring methods focused on network performance and end-user experience.
- Analyze performance data and work with partner teams to maintain a performant global network.
- Advocate for network operational stability and influence engineering roadmaps and software solutions.
- Mentor team members on global routing and anycast-heavy network environments.
Requirements
- Experience with global Internet protocols and practices, including TCP/IP, BGP, Anycast, and DNS.
- Experience with automation and coding in Python or similar languages.
- Proficiency with Tier 1 Internet service providers, Internet exchanges, and cloud providers.
- Ability to analyze internet traffic patterns across multiple dimensions using flow-based tools.
- Experience with alerting, monitoring, and visibility tools such as Graphite/Grafana, Prometheus, or Splunk.
- Knowledge of GCP, AWS, and Azure cloud hosting solutions.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Jenkins, and Ansible.
- Understanding of Linux/Unix systems administration and network stack optimization.
- Ability to share knowledge and create comprehensive documentation.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally on technical roadmaps and network automation initiatives.
- Preferred: production-level coding experience with VCL or Go.
- Preferred: experience with network telemetry, including infrastructure instrumentation and collecting, processing, storing, and analyzing data.
- Preferred: experience working with geographically distributed teams; prior remote work is preferred.
