Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain data-driven, AI-enabled, or research-focused applications.
- Build end-to-end applications with web dashboards or portals, backend services, and integrated AI or analytical functionality.
- Design or operate pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and managing structured and unstructured research data.
- Support AI-enabled applications on institutionally managed infrastructure and commercial AI platforms, including execution, resource usage, and reliability.
- Apply testing, debugging, version control, dependency management, documentation, and other software engineering practices.
- Develop example applications, reference implementations, reusable templates, onboarding materials, guides, and walkthroughs.
- Assess AI application behavior against user needs and refine configurations, workflows, or inputs.
- Provide technical guidance through consultancy, training, workshops, and other support for faculty, researchers, students, project teams, and non-specialists.
- Direct the technical work of junior peers.
- Travel up to 10% or more as required and work beyond normal office hours or on weekends when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience is required.
- For the Senior AI Engineer level, at least two years of experience developing data-driven AI-enabled or research-focused applications is required.
- For the Lead AI Engineer level, at least five years of experience developing data-driven AI-enabled or research-focused applications is required.
- Demonstrated experience providing or delivering technical guidance through consultancy, training, or workshops on AI systems and applications is required.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree related to Data Science or Artificial Intelligence and formal applied-AI training with hands-on enterprise AI platform experience.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with AI-enabled research applications, research-data pipelines, high-performance computing, parallel programming, large datasets, and high-performance file systems.
- Preferred qualifications include proficiency in modern programming languages used in research or scientific computing.
- Preferred qualifications include extensive experience supporting AI applications, assessing application behavior, creating reusable implementations, and applying sustainable software engineering practices.
- Experience directing the technical work of junior peers is preferred.
