Responsibilities
- Own backend solutions from partner and customer problem definition through production operation.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java and Spring Boot services in a distributed microservices architecture.
- Lead development in event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems.
- Architect, design, and optimize relational databases such as PostgreSQL for performance and scalability.
- Collaborate across teams on partner integrations and interfaces affecting the wider payment journey.
- Improve testing and observability, diagnose production issues, and strengthen service dependability.
- Make technical decisions balancing delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability.
- Participate in code reviews, share domain knowledge, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building or substantially contributing to large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong backend engineering experience with relational databases, event-driven systems, and an object-oriented programming language.
- Ability to understand customer problems, explain why solutions matter, and use product metrics or data to assess impact.
- Ability to take ownership, work autonomously through ambiguity, and involve others when needed.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams.
- Curiosity about the business domain and willingness to learn how partners use the products built.
- Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, or PostgreSQL experience is useful; payments, fintech, funding, settlement, or foreign-exchange experience is also useful.
