Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction and lead delivery for a key aspect of Ubuntu Linux.
- Lead engineers in architecture, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing kernel delivery.
- Drive engagements with silicon and cloud partners to provide optimal platform solutions.
- Lead mitigation of common vulnerabilities and exposures and drive kernel hardening.
- Architect performance and correctness enhancements for the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
- Streamline packaging and distribution of troublesome third-party components.
- Develop scalable delivery methods for Ubuntu Linux while meeting quality standards and schedules.
- Coordinate initiatives and adoption with management, external teams, and senior technical leadership.
Requirements
- Expert understanding of the C programming language.
- Demonstrated expertise working in a Unix-like operating system kernel and distribution; direct Linux experience is ideal but not mandatory.
- Python and Bash scripting ability.
- Strong understanding of the Git version control system.
- Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Ability to lead engineers and coordinate delivery across internal and external teams.
- Demonstrated technical equivalent of 15+ years of industry experience.
- Strong background in RTOS and real-time performance analysis, Ubuntu/Debian/Snap packaging, kernel patching and debugging, device drivers, BSPs, and low-level system engineering are additional desirable skills.
- Ability to travel internationally at least twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.
