Responsibilities
- Participate in penetration tests, security reviews, variant-hunting exercises, design reviews, code reviews, and exploit proof-of-concept development.
- Analyze emerging threats and help improve the security of Windows, Azure, and specialized cloud services.
- Apply offensive security techniques to propose protections and reinforce secure design.
- Engage with internal and external security researchers and contribute to continuous security learning.
- Collaborate with product teams to improve security posture and communicate the business value of security insights.
- Participate in the SERPENT OODA Loop to scale offensive security insights across Microsoft.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, with at least one semester or term remaining after the internship.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
- Preferred: familiarity with Python or C# and demonstrated interest in cybersecurity, penetration testing, or vulnerability research.
- Preferred: participation in Capture the Flag challenges, security labs, hackathons, or research projects.
- Preferred: coding experience in C#, Java, Python, Rust, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Preferred: familiarity with cloud concepts, especially Azure, or distributed systems.
- Preferred: understanding of static analysis, vulnerability auditing, memory corruption, web security, identity, authentication, or operating system internals.

- Base pay and other benefits or compensation may vary by location; the role has a different pay range for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
