Responsibilities

  • Lead a small engineering team by assigning and prioritizing work, reviewing technical output, coaching developers, providing performance feedback, and supporting career growth.
  • Own and evolve backend API services built with Node.js and NestJS on AWS ECS.
  • Design and implement event-driven processing with Kafka and AWS MSK, including Redis caching.
  • Support file ingestion pipelines using Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, schedulers, and Python or Node.js components.
  • Maintain data synchronization workloads using AWS Batch, AWS Lambda, and scheduled jobs, with emphasis on correctness and recoverability.
  • Participate in on-call and incident response, post-incident root-cause analyses, and preventive improvements.
  • Improve CI/CD and engineering quality using GitHub Actions, Jest, k6, SonarQube, and Veracode.
  • Manage infrastructure changes with Terraform, including networking, observability, and runtime configuration.
  • Lead vendor knowledge transfer, develop runbooks and troubleshooting guides, and establish internal alerting, dashboard, escalation, and on-call practices.
  • Reduce vendor dependencies and support the phased transition of L1/L2/L3 production support to the internal engineering team.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and partner teams on requirements, SLAs, and release planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend development expertise.
  • Strong Node.js experience and proficiency with relational databases, including PostgreSQL performance troubleshooting and data integrity.
  • Production operations experience with AWS services including ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS/PostgreSQL, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, observability, and incident response.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, with Terraform strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading an engineering team and mentoring developers.
  • Strong communication skills and an ownership mindset.
  • NestJS experience preferred.
  • Kafka or AWS MSK event streaming and messaging experience preferred.
  • Python experience for ingestion tooling or serverless components preferred.
  • Experience with regulated or financial data flows, reconciliation, or integration platforms preferred.
  • Experience improving reliability through idempotency, retries, dead-letter queues, and backpressure preferred.
