Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable backend systems, infrastructure, and distributed systems.
- Improve performance, reliability, efficiency, and Postgres database design across services.
- Own and improve GCP cloud infrastructure, deployment systems, CI/CD pipelines, and environment automation.
- Build observability tooling and operational dashboards, and improve monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident response.
- Strengthen application and infrastructure security through authentication, authorization, secrets management, and data protection practices.
- Lead uptime, disaster recovery, backup, resilience, infrastructure review, and reliability initiatives.
- Develop internal tooling and platform improvements to increase engineering velocity.
- Partner with product and engineering teams, guide architecture and technical standards, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a software engineer focused on backend systems, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
- Strong experience designing and operating scalable production systems on Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with GCP services including Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud SQL, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Load Balancing, IAM, and Monitoring.
- Strong experience with Python and backend frameworks such as Django.
- Deep knowledge of CI/CD, observability, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated deployments.
- Strong understanding of production security best practices and operational reliability.
- Experience optimizing Postgres performance and database design.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Strong analytical, debugging, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Preferred: experience scaling consumer social or marketplace products, asynchronous systems and job queues, internal developer platforms or tooling, or high-growth startups.
