Base Salary
$184k - $230k/yr
Responsibilities
- Research retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI techniques and determine which ideas belong on the product roadmap
- Prototype ideas rapidly and turn validated concepts into production-grade features
- Define technical direction spanning multiple teams within Fivetran AI
- Build and maintain backend and frontend systems, including Agents Schema pipelines and the Context Catalog UI
- Advance AISQL, translating natural language to SQL grounded in dbt metric definitions and executing it against data warehouses
- Own production reliability through on-call participation, incident response, and SRE work
- Set testing and QA standards and perform hands-on QA when needed
- Use coding agents to automate repetitive engineering work
- Independently translate product and leadership direction into concrete execution plans
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the team
- Participate in and help shape the hiring and interview process
Requirements
- 8+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java
- Ability to work fluidly across backend and frontend engineering
- Ability to read AI/ML research and turn promising findings into prototypes and production systems
- Strong product and market awareness for evaluating emerging techniques
- Experience independently executing work from ambiguous, high-level direction
- Experience with SQL and data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks
- Willingness to work across research, backend, frontend, SRE, and QA
- Experience writing performant code and improving unfamiliar codebases
- Experience using coding agents or similar AI tooling
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across teams
- Ability to thrive in a startup-like environment with shifting priorities and high ownership
- Bonus: experience with RAG pipelines, embeddings, evaluation frameworks, agent frameworks, semantic layers, MCP, site reliability engineering, data processing, data connectors, AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, or open-source AI and data projects
