Responsibilities
- Build and operate the Azure MySQL managed database service at massive global scale.
- Own technical problems end to end and make pragmatic, high-impact decisions.
- Write clean, reliable, and maintainable code under pressure.
- Lead technical decisions independently, mentor engineers, and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Design and scale distributed systems and stateful services, including control plane and service orchestration patterns.
- Deliver database services across thousands of machines and dozens of data centers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
- Coding experience in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
- Preferred: master’s degree with 8+ years of experience, or bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
- Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or cloud services.
- Strong programming skills and deep knowledge of a programming language, standard libraries, data structures, and algorithms.
- Proven ability to lead technical decisions, mentor engineers, work cross-functionally, and deliver reliable code.
- Preferred familiarity with control plane design, service orchestration, scaling stateful distributed services, database internals, performance tuning, failover, replication, Linux troubleshooting, memory dumps, and low-level performance.
