Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex software solutions for payroll, compliance, and enterprise applications.
  • Design and develop scalable backend APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native services using Java and/or Python.
  • Drive architecture, performance optimization, modernization, reliability, observability, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Lead production incident response, root cause analysis, monitoring, alerting, and long-term corrective actions.
  • Ensure secure coding, data governance, auditability, and compliant handling of payroll, tax, financial, and personally identifiable information.
  • Champion AI-assisted engineering practices across requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and operations.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, pair programming, and technical guidance.
  • Own work across requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
  • Lead small to medium-sized projects and coordinate technical efforts across multiple contributors and teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in Java and/or Python development.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering scalable backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling experience.
  • Hands-on experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure.
  • Experience with Redis and/or Hazelcast for distributed caching.
  • Strong experience with observability platforms including Grafana, Kibana, OpenTelemetry, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives from design through production and resolve complex production issues.
  • Strong understanding of secure software development and handling sensitive customer data.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and workflows and an AI-first engineering mindset.
  • Preferred experience includes payroll, tax, HR, fintech, compliance, high-volume transaction processing, cloud-native microservices, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps practices, and leading initiatives across multiple teams.
