Responsibilities
- Optimize database configurations, infrastructure, cost, features, and performance.
- Own the reliability and availability of MongoDB and ScyllaDB cloud infrastructure, including servers and storage.
- Identify non-scalable or unreliable system components and drive immediate and long-term resolutions.
- Build self-healing capabilities for database systems.
- Improve database architecture scalability and performance, including regular shard additions and removals.
- Perform database maintenance, migrations, and hardware and software upgrades.
- Monitor CPU utilization, memory utilization, operation execution times, replication lag, data load balancing, and query load balancing.
- Conduct diagnostic tests, evaluate performance metrics, and maintain high availability of database services.
- Document database-management processes and follow best practices.
- Automate day-to-day database operations to reduce operational toil.
- Participate in on-call rotation as the first responder for database issues, including response, mitigation, fixes, escalation, and documentation.
Requirements
- 6+ years of hands-on experience with NoSQL and SQL databases, including at least 4 years as a MongoDB DBA.
- Experience hosting, maintaining, and owning large MongoDB clusters in the cloud.
- Experience with scripting languages and tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
- Strong debugging skills, including analyzing metrics, narrowing possible causes, reproducing issues, and collaborating with application teams through resolution.
- Experience managing ScyllaDB clusters and AWS ElastiCache is a bonus.
- Experience with one or more time-series databases such as InfluxDB, Prometheus, or VictoriaMetrics is a bonus.
