Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Perception

Base Salary
$275k - $321k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and help build the technical architecture for next-generation perception systems.
- Develop machine learning systems that convert multimodal sensor inputs into representations of the physical environment.
- Advance multi-sensor and multimodal fusion for complex real-world environments.
- Design deep learning architectures for detection, segmentation, tracking, classification, scene understanding, and 3D perception.
- Explore the use of foundation models and world models in perception pipelines.
- Build perception systems supporting downstream reasoning, planning, and action models.
- Make architectural decisions across data, model design, training, evaluation, inference, and deployment.
- Optimize systems for latency, efficiency, reliability, compute, and real-world operating constraints.
- Establish perception evaluation methodologies and performance metrics.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, mentorship, technical direction, and talent assessment.
- Collaborate with AI research, robotics, autonomy, action-model, and ML-infrastructure teams.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in machine learning and computer vision with substantial experience building sophisticated perception systems.
- Strong understanding of modern deep learning architectures and visual and multimodal perception.
- Experience with real-world sensor modalities such as cameras, LiDAR, radar, audio, or depth sensors.
- Experience with sensor fusion, multimodal learning, 3D perception, scene understanding, or related areas.
- Understanding of the full machine learning lifecycle, including data strategy, training, architecture, evaluation, optimization, and deployment.
- Experience designing ML systems under real-world latency, compute, reliability, and safety constraints.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on ability in Python and/or C++.
- Demonstrated ability to make consequential technical and architectural decisions in ambiguous environments.
- Track record of technical leadership and influence beyond immediate projects or teams.
- Ability to communicate complex technical ideas and collaborate across research and engineering disciplines.
