Base Salary
$200k - $358k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of critical Safety AI initiatives and real-time perception systems across edge devices and the cloud.
- Architect end-to-end computer vision pipelines for object detection, tracking, semantic segmentation, multi-camera fusion, and related safety detection tasks.
- Drive the technical roadmap for edge and cloud perception and optimize model deployment on constrained hardware.
- Partner with hardware and firmware teams to co-design the full device and software stack.
- Use petabyte-scale multimodal video, sensor, telematics, and diagnostics data to train and iterate on production models.
- Translate relevant computer vision and perception research into shipped products.
- Mentor and technically guide senior scientists and engineers.
- Translate customer and business needs into precise engineering problems and technical solutions.
- Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles across the organization.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Vision, or a related quantitative field.
- 10+ years of experience as a scientist or ML engineer leading end-to-end AI systems in production.
- Deep computer vision expertise, including object detection, tracking, and segmentation in real-world environments.
- Experience with multimodal perception and sensor fusion using technologies such as cameras, lidar, radar, and GPS/IMU.
- Experience with transformer-based architectures and vision-language models or vision-language agents.
- Experience building and deploying real-time or edge ML systems optimized for low-latency inference.
- Demonstrated ability to move systems from research through production deployment, including performance optimization and reliability at scale.
- Experience applying perception to driver assistance, fleet safety, or operations automation is preferred.
- Publications or patents at top-tier venues such as CVPR, ICCV, ICRA, or NeurIPS are preferred.
