Responsibilities
- Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model development, and evaluation on structured and unstructured datasets.
- Design and build prototypes of agentic AI systems using multi-step workflows, tools, and reasoning across tasks.
- Experiment with LLM techniques including retrieval-augmented generation, tool and function calling, fine-tuning, and agent harness design.
- Develop frameworks to evaluate the quality, reliability, and safety of LLM and agent outputs.
- Collaborate with mentors, business stakeholders, and engineers to move AI solutions toward production.
- Document methodologies, assumptions, and results and present findings to technical and business audiences.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a PhD or MS program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Data Science, or a related quantitative field, with expected graduation between December 2027 and August 2028.
- Background in large language models and agentic AI, natural language processing, speech recognition, or personalization and recommendation systems.
- Strong foundation in statistics, probability, and machine learning, including experimental design and business-oriented metric definition.
- Hands-on familiarity with prompting, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, tool and function calling, structured outputs, and agentic workflows.
- Strong Python skills and experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow, Hugging Face, NumPy, Pandas, and scikit-learn.
- Clear written and spoken communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Preferred experience with LLM prototypes integrating tools, APIs, documents, databases, or search systems through frameworks such as LangGraph, Google ADK, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Semantic Kernel.
- Preferred experience with fine-tuning or post-training, including TRL, and with building evaluation frameworks for LLM or agent outputs.
- Published research in agentic AI, NLP, speech, reinforcement learning, or related areas and the ability to write and debug production-quality code are preferred.
- Familiarity with the financial services industry is preferred.
