Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end delivery of Godot-based games on one or more platforms, including builds, packaging, signing, distribution, releases, and live updates.
- Design and maintain platform abstraction layers for windowing, input, file systems, and device services.
- Manage suspend/resume, backgrounding, orientation and window changes, permissions, interruptions, and memory pressure.
- Build capability detection, automatic quality settings, scalability tiers, and graceful fallbacks for varied hardware.
- Profile and optimize CPU, GPU, memory, load-time, and battery performance using platform-native tools.
- Write and maintain native plugins and bindings using technologies such as GDExtension, JNI, Swift, Objective-C, and JavaScript interop.
- Automate platform builds, packaging, and device testing while maintaining representative device coverage.
- Influence technical decisions, identify platform risks, document constraints, and mentor mid-level and associate engineers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including shipped production software on iOS, Android, ChromeOS, Web, Windows, macOS, or Linux.
- Deep expertise in the CPU, GPU, memory, and thermal characteristics of a specialty platform and their impact on real-time application performance.
- Strong C++ or C# skills and fluency in relevant native languages such as Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Rust.
- Hands-on ownership of platform build, packaging, signing, release, and store submission or distribution for a shipped product.
- Experience with application lifecycles and system services including windowing, input, file systems, permissions, and interruptions.
- Proficiency with profiling and debugging tools such as Xcode Instruments, Android Studio Profiler, Perfetto, browser DevTools, PIX, or RenderDoc.
- Familiarity with game-engine or real-time application architecture, ideally Godot or a comparable engine.
- Track record of mentoring mid-level engineers and influencing technical decisions.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for explaining platform constraints to non-specialists.
- Nice-to-have experience with Godot custom builds, export templates, or GDExtension; platform abstraction layers; scalability systems; low-end or school-issued hardware; CI/CD and automated device testing; and shipped app-store or web titles.

About Level
Level builds a learning technology platform that combines established curriculum principles with interactive, game-style design to help students practice academic and life skills. The product runs on a forked, optimized Godot engine engineered to perform reliably on mobile and other constrained hardware. It targets students and educators seeking repeatable, meaningful practice in a format that feels like a game.
