Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain database schemas, tables, indexes, relationships, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and data models.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries and execution plans, and resolve database performance bottlenecks.
- Develop and manage ETL processes, data pipelines, reusable integration patterns, parameterized scripts, and modular solutions.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, security, validation, constraints, access controls, and database change management.
- Gather client requirements, lead solution architecture and design sessions, and align database solutions with business and enterprise goals.
- Produce technical documentation and contribute to project planning, estimation, scoping, and risk assessment.
- Connect databases to BI tools for reporting and analysis and collaborate with developers, analysts, and stakeholders.
- Investigate and resolve complex database issues in production and non-production environments.
- Mentor junior developers, guide Agile delivery activities, and enforce database engineering standards, naming conventions, and governance practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of SQL development experience within the Microsoft ecosystem.
- Deep, production-grade experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or later and advanced T-SQL proficiency.
- Strong experience in database design, schema design, normalization, data modeling, performance tuning, and ETL processes.
- Experience with SQL Server Integration Services or similar ETL tools.
- Experience with database version control tools such as Redgate, Azure DevOps, or Git.
- Proficiency with SQL Server Management Studio, Azure Data Studio, or similar tools.
- Strong client-facing or consulting experience is highly valued.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance, Power BI, SSRS, SSAS, PostgreSQL, MySQL, database deployment automation, dimensional modeling, or data warehousing is advantageous.
- A BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or an equivalent three-year qualification is advantageous.
- Microsoft SQL Server certification such as MCSA or MCSE and experience in financial services, insurance, or healthcare are advantageous.
