Base Salary
$272k - $340k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction of multiple critical systems or architecture areas spanning teams or product lines.
- Drive the design and delivery of high-scale, high-impact projects from vision through production deployment.
- Build consensus on architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy.
- Investigate and optimize performance, reliability, and efficiency in large-scale distributed systems.
- Collaborate with Staff Engineers, Directors, and VPs to shape Datadog’s technical roadmap.
- Guide teams through ambiguity, scaling challenges, and evolving requirements.
- Mentor engineers and influence engineering culture through design reviews, technical talks, and working groups.
Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in a scientific field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of backend, infrastructure, or distributed systems engineering experience.
- 4+ years of experience leading complex technical initiatives and cross-team projects.
- Experience designing and delivering deeply technical, highly reliable systems serving critical business needs.
- Deep expertise in at least one core systems domain, such as distributed storage, event streaming, networking, data infrastructure, or large-scale observability.
- Broad awareness of adjacent systems areas and the ability to navigate ambiguous technical problem spaces.
- Exceptional communication skills for aligning diverse stakeholders around a shared technical vision.
