Responsibilities
- Design, code, and optimize high-performance forwarding software for Cisco IOS-XR platforms.
- Develop forwarding features involving QoS, mirroring, slow path, OAM, Layer 2 technologies, and Layer 3 technologies.
- Implement NPU data-plane logic, microcode, and SDK interactions to optimize packet processing.
- Translate network protocol requirements into efficient forwarding implementations.
- Investigate and resolve embedded software defects using logs, core dumps, and packet traces.
- Profile and tune code to reduce latency and maximize throughput against service-provider performance metrics.
- Use AI- and LLM-based tools for code generation, unit-test creation, static analysis, and debugging.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of experience in embedded software development for networking products.
- Strong programming skills in C and C++, plus scripting experience in Python.
- Knowledge of carrier-grade networking operating systems and forwarding architectures.
- Experience debugging sophisticated embedded software issues, including hardware/software interactions and memory management.
- Experience with ClearCase, Valgrind, DDTS, GDB, or similar tools.
- Understanding of router deployments in service-provider networks, including core and peering environments.
- Knowledge of Internet protocols including TCP, UDP, IPv4, and IPv6.
- Exposure to Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, QoS, and ACLs.
- Preferred experience with IOS-XR or similar carrier-grade network operating systems.
- Preferred experience with BCM, Silicon One, EZchip, or NPU programming.
- Familiarity with AI/ML tools for software engineering, such as Copilot and AI-based log analysis.
