Responsibilities
- Design and build high-fidelity simulation environments for surgical tasks.
- Generate scalable synthetic datasets containing imagery, segmentation masks, depth, optical flow, and kinematic state, while owning quality, versioning, and delivery.
- Implement domain randomization and procedural scene generation to improve sim-to-real transfer.
- Model deformable soft-tissue physics, tool-tissue contact, and instrument kinematics.
- Partner with ML engineers on task curricula, reward functions, and evaluation benchmarks.
- Validate simulated behaviors against benchtop phantoms and real systems.
- Build reusable tools, APIs, documentation, and task-creation frameworks for the broader team.
- Develop infrastructure that generates thousands of training episodes per hour and integrates with ML training pipelines.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering skills with maintainable, tested code in Python, C++ and/or C#.
- Hands-on experience with a physics simulator, game engine, rendering pipeline, robotics simulator, real-time engine, or offline graphics pipeline.
- Experience producing data used to train ML models or working closely with teams that do so.
- Working knowledge of coordinate frames, rendering, rigid-body dynamics, and contact dynamics.
- Several years of experience in games, simulation, graphics, robotics, or data systems is expected, though no specific number is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Robotics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience includes deformable-object simulation, NVIDIA Isaac Sim/Lab, surgical robotics simulation, sim-to-real techniques, vision-language models, procedural or generative asset creation, distributed compute, medical imaging, and relevant publications or open-source work.
