Responsibilities
- Build and operate scalable observability platforms for metrics, logs, traces, events, alerting, dashboards, and service health.
- Develop software and platform capabilities that help engineering teams instrument, monitor, and troubleshoot services.
- Establish observability standards covering telemetry collection, instrumentation, alert quality, SLOs, SLIs, service ownership, and operational readiness.
- Improve incident detection, diagnosis, and response through actionable alerts, correlation, dependency visibility, and runbooks.
- Build self-service tools and paved paths for observability adoption.
- Partner with application, infrastructure, SRE, security, and product teams to deliver durable solutions.
- Improve the scalability, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency of observability systems across regions and environments.
- Participate in design reviews, technical planning, code reviews, incident response, and post-incident learning.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language, such as Go, Java, Python, or Kotlin.
- Hands-on experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale.
- Practical experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or ELK.
- Strong understanding of metrics, logs, traces, alerting, SLIs, SLOs, and incident management.
- Experience with Kubernetes, containers, public cloud platforms, infrastructure as code, Terraform, and automated software delivery.
- Strong system design, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and technical decision-making skills.
- Preferred experience includes building observability or internal developer platforms, high-volume telemetry systems, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, Loki, Tempo, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, Kafka, service meshes, Kubernetes operators, SRE practices, and open-source infrastructure projects.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
