Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, maintain, deploy, and support Java applications and services across the stack.
- Own production software and independently drive complex initiatives from design through deployment and support.
- Develop Java-based RESTful APIs, integrations, backend services, and distributed or microservice systems.
- Work with relational databases, SQL, data models, application integrations, and supporting infrastructure.
- Evaluate, refactor, and modernize existing or legacy applications to improve performance, scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
- Contribute to automated testing, source control, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, deployment, and production support.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues across applications, APIs, integrations, databases, and infrastructure.
- Use AI agents for development planning, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation, validating and refining generated work before production.
- Design, build, and integrate AI agents and agentic workflows to automate engineering tasks and solve product challenges.
- Collaborate with product, design, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders in a cross-functional environment.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience with a primary focus on Java.
- Hands-on experience with Open Liberty or a similar Java application server or runtime platform.
- Strong knowledge of Java, object-oriented programming, application architecture, and RESTful API development.
- Experience with relational databases, SQL, enterprise applications, integrations, and distributed or microservice-based systems.
- Experience with automated testing, source control, CI/CD, deployment, and production support.
- Experience with cloud platforms and related infrastructure.
- Experience modernizing or maintaining existing or legacy Java applications.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools or AI agents in the software development lifecycle, including validating and refining AI-generated work.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, independent ownership, and continuous-learning abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in an Agile, cross-functional environment.
- Candidates must reside in and be authorized to work in Costa Rica.
