Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Java/Spring Boot services in production from API contract through monitoring.
- Make and document architecture decisions using ADRs.
- Build reliable event-driven workflows with Kafka or RabbitMQ, including retry, duplicate, and partial-failure handling.
- Integrate with partners and financial institutions through REST and legacy SOAP/XML services.
- Review pull requests for design, maintainability, performance, and test coverage.
- Own READMEs, runbooks, and API specifications for developed systems.
- Mentor engineers and take technical leadership on projects.
- Build and maintain Angular front-end features end to end on the full-stack track.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional Java experience, including at least 3 years making design decisions on production systems.
- Deep Spring Boot experience covering dependency injection, Spring Security, Spring Data, transaction management, and testing.
- Strong REST API design skills, including versioning, error handling, idempotency, pagination, and OpenAPI documentation.
- Strong relational database skills with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and JPA/Hibernate.
- Production experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ and knowledge of consumer groups, offset management, delivery semantics, and idempotent consumers.
- Practical understanding of distributed-system failure modes, including eventual consistency, retries, circuit breakers, timeouts, and distributed tracing.
- Experience with unit testing using JUnit and Mockito and integration testing against a real database.
- Comfort with Docker, Maven, Jenkins, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS.
- Awareness of the OWASP Top 10 and secrets management using AWS Secrets Manager, Vault, or similar tools.
- Professional working English and sound judgment when using AI coding tools.
- For the full-stack track, at least 2 years of Angular and TypeScript experience, including RxJS, HTML, and SCSS.
- Fintech or payments experience, Kotlin, Avro or Protocol Buffers with a schema registry, WebSockets, Nginx, HAProxy, Tomcat, JasperReports, xdocreport, or formal team leadership are nice to have.
- Full-stack candidates may also have experience with Webpack, Babel, AngularJS, React, or Vue.
