Senior / Staff AI Model Engineer

Responsibilities
- Own the reliability and quality bar for an AI copilot embedded in a trading platform.
- Design and build evaluation systems measuring correctness, safety, latency, and regression risk across market analysis, portfolio and risk reasoning, and trading workflows including order placement.
- Develop and maintain golden sets, scenario suites, stress and adversarial cases, and refreshed market- and regime-based test corpora.
- Build automated quality gates and regression workflows that block releases when key metrics degrade.
- Partner with engineering and product to define safe tool and action contracts with deterministic previews, confirmations, and auditability.
- Own model-improvement loops covering data collection and labeling strategies, error taxonomies, prompt and tooling changes, and appropriate fine-tuning or preference optimization.
- Design and operate AI monitoring and incident response, including telemetry, alerting, root-cause analysis, and fix-forward processes.
- Develop deep knowledge of trading concepts including margin, shorting, portfolio margin, risk, and execution, and express them accurately and clearly to users.
Requirements
- At least eight years of experience shipping production software and strong proficiency in any programming language.
- Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals, testing methodology, and systems design.
- Experience building evaluation frameworks, test harnesses, and benchmark suites for complex systems such as LLMs, agents, search, retrieval, ranking, or recommender systems.
- Experience running model-improvement cycles involving dataset curation, labeling and quality assurance, offline experimentation, and deploying changes with measurable benchmark impact.
- Ability to define metrics, build measurement pipelines, and use data to guide engineering and product decisions.
- Comfort working across the stack, including debugging model and tooling failures, instrumenting services, and partnering with frontend and product teams on safety and trust-oriented user experience patterns.
- Experience with fine-tuning, preference optimization, distillation, or prompt/compiler-style techniques is a bonus.
- Experience creating domain-specific benchmarks and adversarial suites for high-stakes applications is a bonus.
- Deep trading experience across asset classes and margin types is a bonus.
- Experience with Rust and performance-sensitive services is a bonus.
- Experience designing incident response and service-level objectives for ML/AI systems is a bonus.
