Mainframe Software Engineer
Pure StorageResponsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain a Java-based agent running on IBM z/OS.
- Build capabilities to scan and interact with VSAM, QSAM, IMS, DB2, flat files, and system-level resources.
- Design, implement, and support scalable software solutions from development through production operations.
- Build and maintain scalable services and APIs using Spring and Spring Boot.
- Optimize performance, scalability, and reliability for large-scale data scanning and processing workloads.
- Contribute to the broader Java platform and cross-platform engineering initiatives.
- Share mainframe expertise and support other engineers in developing domain knowledge.
- Collaborate with engineering, architecture, product, and cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and deliver customer-focused outcomes.
Requirements
- Experience with Java development frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot.
- Experience building distributed systems, APIs, or microservices-based architectures.
- Familiarity with containerized environments and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
- Experience with IBM z/OS or enterprise mainframe environments.
- Knowledge of VSAM, QSAM, JCL, datasets, DB2, IMS, or similar mainframe systems.
- Experience delivering software that balances performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
- Interest in learning new technologies and evolving engineering practices.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools, DevOps, CI/CD automation, Golang, COBOL, REXX, RACF, USS, or legacy modernization is beneficial.
