Responsibilities
- Implement backend and web-tier features in PHP 8.x using agreed designs and acceptance criteria.
- Build and consume APIs for subscriber management, catalog administration, metadata publishing, and back-office workflows.
- Develop and maintain Laravel or Symfony applications, including queues, events, integrations, and typed PHP code.
- Integrate PHP applications with AWS services including S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda, RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache, and Secrets Manager.
- Implement asynchronous workloads with idempotency, retries, failure handling, and dead-letter queue management.
- Create unit and integration tests and maintain static analysis and coding standards.
- Consume Java and Spring Boot microservice APIs and maintain typed client layers and DTO mappings.
- Handle authentication, token propagation, contract compatibility, serialization, time zones, monetary precision, and resilient downstream integration behavior.
- Triage production defects, perform root-cause analysis, isolate PHP versus Java or contract issues, and escalate product defects with evidence.
- Investigate PHP production issues involving memory limits, timeouts, FPM saturation, OPcache, and N+1 queries.
- Support release notes, non-production validation, production deployments, rollback verification, and on-call or shift-based support.
Requirements
- Minimum 7.5 years of experience is required.
- Three to four years of hands-on backend development, including at least two years of production PHP 7.4 or PHP 8.x experience.
- Strong modern PHP knowledge, including object-oriented programming, namespaces, interfaces, traits, dependency injection, type declarations, exception handling, Composer, PSR-4, and PSR-12.
- Production experience with Laravel or Symfony, including routing, middleware, service containers, Eloquent or Doctrine ORM, migrations, queues, and events.
- Experience with PHPUnit or Pest, mocking external dependencies, PHPStan or Psalm, and coding-standard tooling.
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, including joins, indexing, query performance, and migration authoring.
- Working knowledge of at least four AWS services in a development capacity.
- Understanding of PHP application deployment using nginx or Apache with PHP-FPM on EC2 or ECS, or serverless PHP.
- Production experience integrating PHP applications with Java-based services and ability to read Java and Spring Boot code.
- Fluency with API contracts, OpenAPI, Swagger, JSON Schema, HTTP semantics, status codes, error handling, and versioning.
- Familiarity with cross-language issues involving time zones, date formats, decimal handling, integer precision, and null representation.
- Preferred experience includes OTT, streaming, broadcast, or digital media platforms; HLS, DASH, DRM, CDN caching, SSAI, and entitlement models.
- Preferred skills include Java or Spring Boot development, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, DynamoDB, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Kubernetes, EKS, observability tools, JavaScript or TypeScript, Vue, React, Blade, Twig, ServiceNow, and Jira Service Management.
