Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Scala services using Play, Akka, and functional programming practices.
- Design, build, and optimize scalable, resilient, and reliable microservices.
- Write unit and integration tests using ScalaTest, Specs2, Mockito, TDD, and BDD practices.
- Support build, deployment, and release processes using SBT, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Design and consume REST APIs and work with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to deliver digital services.
- Mentor and coach engineers and contribute to Scala engineering communities and continuous improvement.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve operational performance and reliability.
Requirements
- Strong professional experience with Scala and functional programming.
- Experience with REST APIs, JSON validation and serialization using Play JSON or Circe.
- Experience designing and querying PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB databases.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests with ScalaTest, Specs2, and Mockito.
- Familiarity with SBT, Git, branching strategies, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization.
- Understanding of web, HTTP, web security best practices, and performance considerations.
- Lead-level candidates additionally need experience governing complex architectures, setting technology roadmaps, leading teams, influencing senior stakeholders, and growing Scala capability.
- Successful appointment requires obtaining UK Security Check (SC) clearance and continuous UK residence for the previous five years.
